What’s the difference between cosmetic and household product compliance
Cosmetics: Must comply with UK SCPN, EU CPNP, and US MoCRA rules, including CPSR, PIF, and labelling.
Household products: Usually fall under detergent, CLP (Classification, Labelling & Packaging), or biocidal regulations, with requirements for safety data sheets (SDS), poison centre notifications, and label compliance.
Do I need a Responsible Person (RP) or US Agent?
Cosmetics: A Responsible Person (RP) is mandatory in the UK/EU. A US Agent is required for MoCRA.
Household products: You may need an EU/UK-based Legal Representative for poison centre notifications and ongoing compliance.
What documents are required for compliance?
Cosmetics: CPSR, PIF, INCI list, label/claims review, GMP confirmation.
Household products: SDS, toxicological data, ingredient disclosures, UFI (Unique Formula Identifier) for poison centre notifications, CLP-compliant labelling.
How long does registration or notification take?
Cosmetics: 1–2 weeks once documentation is ready (longer for MoCRA if formulation/ingredient details are incomplete).
Household products: Timelines vary — poison centre notifications can take a few weeks, CLP/SDS work depends on data availability.
Can ADSL manage global compliance for multiple regions?
Yes. We handle UK SCPN, EU CPNP, and US MoCRA in parallel, ensuring one harmonised data set (CPSR/PIF, labels, formulations) to minimise duplication
What are the risks of non-compliance?
For both categories: products may be withdrawn from sale, blocked at customs, or subject to regulatory enforcement. In some cases, non-compliance can also lead to consumer safety issues and reputational damage.
