A step on from consumer testing, clinical testing takes product evaluation to the next level with “on-site” clinically led evaluations undertaken at the ADSL DermaCentre. This is an important part of the development process as it allows you to meet compliance and regulatory requirements. Within the EU, for example, clinical testing forms part of addressing Commission Regulation (EU) No 655/2013 which lays down the common criteria for the justification of claims used in relation to cosmetic products.
We use state-of-the-art technology to measure a range of parameters, all under the supervision of our clinical team and resident dermatologist. We are proud of the service we provide, and our capability is always growing as we invest in our testing capacity.
Frequent clinical testing includes 48/96hr patch testing to ascertain suitability for skin types and validate claims such as “dermatologically approved” and “dermatologically tested”. We carry out skin moisture assessments which measures changes in hydration in the stratum corneum, to support claims relating to moisturisation as well as vapour assessment which measures Trans Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL) for claims relating to barrier activity. For claims related to tone or pigment we are able to undertake colour assessment which measures skin colour, erythema index & melanin index.
As well as this our dermatologists carry out a multitude of other assessment such as an elasticity assessment which measures skin stiffness based on the biomechanical response of the skin and subcutaneous tissue, a sebum assessment which measures skin sebum values via a quartz microbalance to validate claims regarding skin cleanliness and oiliness and high-resolution imaging & measurement via Visoface HD for pores or fine lines and much more.
