Consumer subject evaluation
Consumer trials (sometimes referred to as User Trial Reports) can be a vital aspect of product development and marketing, demonstrating the safety, efficacy and user perception of a product and justifying and enhancing the claims being made.
Proof of Claim & Concept.
Consumer trials and focus panels can help us in a number of ways. Not only do they provide us with data to support product positioning and predict success in various markets, they also allow us to fulfill compliance and regulatory requirements. In the EU, for example, UTRs form part of addressing Commission Regulation (EU) No 655/2013 which lays down the common criteria for the justification of claims used in relation to cosmetic products. They also aid compliance with requirements under EU Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 Article 10, Annex 10 to provide a statement on the safety of the cosmetic product. This takes into account the intended use of the cosmetic product and the anticipated systemic exposure to individual ingredients in the final formulation.
ADSL has a very large and diverse panellist community, all of whom have been validated to provide timely information concerning their experience of the product on trial. This means we offer an efficient and robust service to our customers. We believe we are unrivalled in our ability to pin down specific user groups for relevance. Panellists are categorised, of course, by age and gender but are also Fitzpatrick assessed so we can understand skin and hair characteristics as well as skin types and ethnicity. We also have full details on their typical cosmetic routines and shopping preferences (brand, ethical considerations, dermatological expectations). Beyond this we understand their specific cosmetic concerns including aspects such as eyes, facial skin, feet, hair, hands, lips, nails, oral body skin and more. We even learn about other lifestyle factors that may influence usability and preference for certain products. This includes, but is not limited to the geography of where they live (e.g. urban, coastal etc.), whether they have hard or soft water, whether they smoke, travel frequently internationally and their working environment. This provides us with a rich dataset for our product efficacy analyses.
